Epigenetics
literally means “above genetics” or “on top of genetics”, this is the study of
how genes can be activated or deactivated by life experiences. It is well established
that cells receive, interpret and adjust to environmental fluctuations, states
microbiologist James Shapiro of the University of Chicago, Illinois. This means
that our genetics can be turned on and off by our environment, our experience
and how we perceive it. This includes what we eat, the stress we experience and
the toxins we are exposed to.
Researchers
have come to the conclusion that genes are not predetermined from the previous
generation and simply passed on. This discovery shows that genes are being
turned on and off all through life. For example, twins may have the genes that
predispose them to a specific disease but only one will develop the disease and
not the other. This is due to the one twin having unhealthy habits and
perceiving his environment through his personal emotional filter. While the
twin that did not develop the disease has healthier habits and experiences life
from a more positive perspective.
So
in simple terms, science has confirmed that the mind and emotions create our body.
Dawson Church, Ph.D. the author of “The Genie In Your Genes” states, “What you
are thinking, feeling, and believing is changing the genetic expression and
chemical composition of your body on a moment-by-moment basis.” In this same
book researchers also note that our consciousness can and will influence
healing; “...Consciousness, acting through the body, can generate the molecules
required for healing. Our brains are themselves generating drugs similar to
those that our doctor is prescribing for us.” (pg 75&170)
Epigenetics
is clearly confirming that we are much more powerful than we realize. If disease
is nurtured by the mind, emotions and a negative perspective towards life then
transforming the outlook on life can transform the disease. This step is the
beginning of any healing process. This includes taking responsibility of your
life and it’s results and making a commitment to change what must be changed. Many
times people need tools to assist in changing belief systems, stuck emotions and/or
an unsupportive life style.
When
you know that you need this assistance you can choose from a diverse field of alternative
healing modalities. Such as energy healing, inner child work, journal therapy, muscle
testing, hypnotherapy and much much more. This is to name just a few. How would
you choose what may work for you? Go with your gut instincts and find a
practitioner or modality that you connect with. You know more than you think
you know.
